Q1 SUSTAINABLE SOLIDARITY | A colleague makes an offhand comment you know was a microaggression toward a BIPOC coworker. What do you do?
Feel uncomfortable but say nothing, hoping the moment passes.
Note it — and bring it up privately with the colleague later.
Speak up in the moment, name the impact, without making it about me.
Check in directly with the BIPOC colleague afterward — asking how they're doing, not to debrief my feelings.
Measures whether the person takes action or defaults to avoidance when solidarity requires something in the moment.
Q2 AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS | When you learn something new about systemic racism or privilege, what's your first instinct?
Feel overwhelmed or defensive, and put some distance between myself and the information.
Post, share, signal that I know — and feel better having done so.
Sit with it, journal, process it before acting.
Ask myself: where does this show up in my own behavior, and what am I willing to change?
Measures whether learning translates into internal change or stays at the level of performance and signaling.
Q3 INCLUSIVE STRUCTURES | How would you describe your closest friendships across racial or cultural difference?
Most of my close friends share my racial or cultural background — cross-cultural relationships are more surface-level.
I have colleagues and acquaintances across difference, but wouldn't call them close friends.
I have meaningful relationships across difference, though we don't often discuss race or power directly.
Deep, reciprocal friendships across difference — we show up for each other in and beyond "the work."
Measures depth of cross-cultural relationship — a key indicator of solidarity stage.
Q4 NURTURING & CARE | You're in a room where BIPOC voices are being talked over or ignored. What do you do?
I probably don't notice in the moment, or I notice and feel unsure what to do.
I notice and feel bothered — but stay quiet to keep the peace.
I speak up to amplify — "I want to make sure we heard what [name] said" — and return the floor.
I've worked to redesign who runs these rooms in the first place, so this happens less often.
Measures whether the person has structural awareness and takes action in real time.
Q5 SOLIDARITY IN ACTION | When it comes to your solidarity practice right now, what feels most true?
I'm not sure where to start, or I've felt burned by past attempts at this work.
I'm doing things, but I'm not sure if they're making a real difference.
I have real practices, but I want them to go deeper and be more sustainable.
I'm committed and practicing — I'm looking for community, tools, and accountability to keep going.
Measures self-awareness about current practice and desire for growth and accountability.
